Michigan Minority Business Development Council

UNIBAR is a minority-owned business and a member of MMBDC [www.mmbdc.com], a privately funded, non-profit, business development organization dedicated to facilitating and enhancing successful business relationships between Minority Business Enterprises and corporations that result in increased procurement from MBEs and in fostering reciprocal procurement among MBEs.

ISO 9002-Registered

(The following brief explanation has been adapted from the ISO.) UNIBAR is ISO 9002-registered. The ISO 9000 family of standards are concerned with quality management. "Quality" in ISO 9000 refers to the features of a product or service required by the customer. "Quality management" means what the organization does to ensure that its products conform to the customer's requirements. ISO 9000 standards of good management practices ensure that the organization can time and time again deliver the product or services that meet the client's quality requirements. ISO 9002 is the standard that applies to organizations that do not design and develop products.

Certification to an ISO 9000 or ISO 14000 standard means an independent auditor has checked that the processes influencing quality (ISO 9000) conform to the relevant standard's requirements. The objective is to give the organization's management and its customers confidence that the organization is in control of the way it does things.

ISO 14001-Compliant

(The following brief explanation has been adapted from the ISO.) UNIBAR is ISO-14000-compliant. ISO 14000 is primarily concerned with "environmental management" or what the organization does to minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities. An environmental management system based on the ISO 14000 standards is a management tool enabling an organization of any size or type to control the impact of its activities, and services on the environment. The standards do not specify levels of environmental performance because they apply across many different types of organization. ISO 14000 provides a framework for an overall, strategic approach to an organization's environmental policy, plans and actions. ISO 14001 can provide assurance to customers, the community, and regulatory agencies of conformance to the organization's own environmental policies, plans and actions.

Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI)

The Building Service Contractors Association International [www.bscai.org] was formed in March, 1965, when over 60 charter members came to Washington, D.C., for the first Annual Meeting. Since this time, the industry has grown rapidly. An increasing number of buildings began utilizing the wide range of services offered by building service contractors. BSCAI has become the trade association of the building service industry, representing a worldwide network of more than 2,500 member companies from across the U.S. and 39 other countries, who provide cleaning, facility maintenance, and other related services to building owners and managers. The association provides educational programs, publications, video training programs, seminars, and networking opportunities, all developed specifically for the building service contracting industry.

World Federation of Building Service Contractors (WFBSC)

UNIBAR is a member of the World Federation of Building Service Contractors [www.wfbsc.org], a dynamic union of national and international associations as well as individual contracting companies, manufacturers, and suppliers from around the globe. The result of this union is an international forum in which contractors, manufacturers and suppliers to the industry can address and solve problems of common concern, exchange new ideas and techniques, and promote the building service contracting industry.

CBSE: The Mark of Excellence

Certified Building Service Executives (CBSEs) are professional executives who actively seek to further the image of the building service industry by providing the highest quality service to their customers. UNIBAR's CBSE-certified operational managers know how to hire, train, and manage good employees; they know how to estimate your building's labor needs and supplies. For the CBSE, state-of-art cleaning technology is the key to maintaining your building at a peak level of appearance and cleanliness. But understanding cleaning technology is just one facet of the CBSE's credentials. The CBSE is an executive with broad business and management expertise who ensures that your building's maintenance needs are met smoothly and cost-effectively. CBSEs also adhere to the BSCAI Code of Ethics, which advocates professionalism and fair business among cleaning contractors. In short, placing your building in the hands of a CBSE means you get both technical cleaning knowledge and executive management experience.

To achieve the CBSE designation, building service contractors must participate in a Certification Program which requires their successful completion of a rigorous, full-day examination. Additionally, they must document their experience and tenure as a building service executive. A minimum of five years in the industry and three years in an executive policy-making position is mandatory for consideration of the CBSE designation. In order to meet The Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI), a non-profit organization which is dedicated to furthering the professionalism of the industry and whose membership is comprised of building service companies worldwide, administers the Certification Program. To maintain their status, CBSEs must keep up-to-date on the latest management techniques, financial and strategic planning, risk management, and legal issues.

The Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI), a non-profit organization of building service companies worldwide and dedicated to furthering the professionalism of the industry administers the Certification Program.
