Hurricane Katrina: "The Storm’s" Impact on Employees of Local Company

 

Ann Arbor, Michigan - The New Orleans employees of Michigan based ACCU-READ Services, a division of UNIBAR Maintenance Services, Inc. headquartered in Ann Arbor, MI, have been tragically impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Due to the subsequent flooding, several employees have been separated from family members in addition to losing their homes, personal possessions, and loved ones. In the midst of this enormous catastrophe, ACCU-Read Services has found a unique method of getting relief to it’s employees affected by "The Storm", and in offering support services to it’s customer Entergy Services, Inc. (the local utility service provider).

Financial support and boxes containing donated supplies are being shipped to the New Orleans employees weekly. It’s a great start, but "it’s only a trickle of what is needed" says Jack McManus, Corporate Vice President of UNIBAR/ACCU-READ Services, Inc. G. Jean Davis Owner and President of UNIBAR/ACCU-READ, and Jack McManus are currently in Louisiana assisting employees who are temporarily stationed in Metairie, LA.

G. Jean Davis and Jack McManus are working with Entergy in providing opportunities for the Louisiana employees to work during the reconstruction of the city of New Orleans. Temporary residence has been set up in hotels for the employee’s as well as food and clothing. G. Jean Davis and Jack McManus are ensuring that employee’s have adequate resources in this time of crisis.

Another tremendous effort is being made by the UNIBAR/ACCU-READ staff to support Katrina victims. A relief drive has been setup at the corporate office. UNIBAR/ACCU-READ is accepting donations from employees, local businesses as well as residents who wish to contribute.
